The E2D LED is a compact, dual-output flashlight with self-defense enhancements. It features a virtually indestructible power-regulated LED emitter and a Total Internal Reflection (TIR) lens. The E2D LED's pushbutton tailcap click switch lets you activate the flashlight and select output level: press or click for a 200-lumen high beam-ten times the light of a big two-D-cell flashlight, more than enough to overwhelm an aggressor's night-adapted vision; release or click off and press or click again for a 5-lumen ultra long-runtime low beam that's suitable for navigating around a dark room or parking lot. Before purchasing my Surefire E2DL Defender - Dual-Output LED Flashlight - 2011 Model, I read reviews for the 2010 model. I liked what I read for the most part so decided to fork up the $140. I was previously using a Mini Mag-light LED AA and needed something more powerful for my security guard job that would also provide some defensive protection in the event that its need arose. My first impression was that the Surefire E2DL Defender was too small. I was expecting something at least the size of my Mini Mag-light. The surefire is about 1 inch smaller than the Mini Mag-light. That being said, I quickly became accustomed to its compact size. It's extremely rugged and sturdy and fits perfectly in my hand allowing me to open doors while on patrol and still being able to comfortably hold it in the same hand. It's ridged tip at the beam end is just sharp enough to let you know that it's there if you need it to defend yourself. The 200 lumens is perfect to light up the night and get into dark corners. It's amazing such a small flashlight can be so powerful. Now a few things I didn't like. The button to turn on the flashlight is at the bottom end, and switching from high(200 lumens) to low(5 lumens)can take some getting used to, but wasn't a big deal for me. The clip on the other hand seems out of place. While I did learn to live with it, I would have liked to have it be easily removed. It takes 123A Lithium Batteries which can be expensive. Surefire does sell a rechargeable kit and batteries for about $30 which is the route I went with. Now for the big dislike. The PRICE. While I do believe this is a great flashlight. I don't believe it's $140 great or even $100. I'm very happy with my Surefire but think that $90 would have been more than reasonable for it. Overall, It's a great flashlight and I'm glad I have it during my shift. If you're looking for a sturdy, compact, 200 lumen, defense flashlight and don't mind spending a little bit more, then this is the flashlight for you.
