There is one more important feature of rubberwood that is very important in today's world. Rubberwood is the most ecologically "friendly" lumber used in today's furniture industry. After the economic life of the rubber tree, which is generally 26-30 years, the latex yields become extremely low and the planters then fell the rubber trees and plant new ones. So, unlike other woods that are cut down for the sole purpose of producing furniture, rubberwood is used only after it completes it's latex producing cycle and dies. We did an exhaustive search for support brackets to match a large travertine kitchen island. The thickness of the top required a very substantial looking bracket. The average pressed wood big box brackets just don't make the grade. The dimensions of the brackets as listed are accurate, they are heavy, and the relief cuts on the piece are very crisp, no additional handwork required. For our purposes the density of the wood was perfect, as we needed to place a threaded cinch nut into the bracket for bolting through the wall of the island. A very precise hole can be drilled in the brackets. Note if you wish to hand finish nail these, drill a smaller pilot hole first. With a air nailer, make sure your pressure is up or the density of the wood will send the nail off course. Really fine looking brackets, shipped from the supplier very well packed.
