I took a long time to purchase this as it was difficult to justify the price. I finally used the old Loreal argument; my hiney is worth it. Turns out that I should have saved my money. The seat is made of laminated wood that is formed with a elevated ridge in the front to facilitate lifting the lid and then stained with a walnut color. Some of you may think of plywood when I say laminated wood and you wouldn't be far off. This particular seat had two blonde colored "flaws" in both the lid and the seat at the very front edge of the unit where both were highly visible. The rubber bumpers were glued on and you could see tiny tendrils of glue leading from each bumper. There were two spots of glue spilled on the chrome hinge. I was very dissappointed in the quality control of this particular piece. It should not have passed. Perhaps I got a Monday morning seat after a special weekend but I was not amused.
Credit to Amazon as they make the return process easy. I think I have purchased hundreds of items from them and this is the first item I have returned.
Had this unit not had the flaws it would have been an interesting piece as the styling is different and fresh. I cannot speak to the soft closing attributes or quick release feature as I did not install the seat.
