La Toscana 78CR568 Elba Pull-Out Spray Kitchen Faucet, Chrome Review

I bought this faucet 4.5 years ago, and it has functioned well in my home kitchen. It is attractive and well-priced. However the spray arm, which pulls out from the base, broke recently. There is a plastic or ceramic tube inside the chrome-colored spray arm, and it suddenly snapped off when I was pulling the arm/hose out from the base.

I contacted the manufacturer's rep in NJ (via [...]) and they were courteous and knowledgeable. There is only a one year warranty on the spray arm, so I had to pay for a replacement ($21, which includes shipping). They include a free replacement hose, though mine showed virtually no signs of wear, and was not a factor in the failure.

The remainder of the unit has a 20 year warranty.

This unit is priced in the lower range for faucets, so perhaps one can't expect too many years of care-free use, especially with one having a pull-out arm. Some parts are plastic rather than metal, so the risk of breakage is probably greater. However I doubt you'll find many in this range that dont use plastic to some extent. And the "guts" are solid brass.

Until this mishap, I've never had a leak and the entire unit retained its shiny appearance very-well.

The unit is apparently manufactured in Italy. The installation instructions are written in terribly poor English, which is a shame, because installing a kitchen faucet is not all that difficult with proper instructional material. Why do so many firms fail to hire a native English speaker to touch-up their instructions materials?

A word of advice in general: this faucet is a bit under 10 inches high. Many other similar-looking faucets are actually quite a bit taller (ie 15" etc), so be careful to check measurements when you order. I wanted a shorter one because its mounted under cabinets, and there's only about 18" clearance.

After a couple of bad experiences with Lith Ion ( rigid ) I went back to the tried and true Ni Cad.On my work truck I have a 14.4 dewalt and the thing sits there in the cold Iowa winters and it still works a long time between charges, and while working on a large job with serveral trades working I noticed the guys working mostly with the smaller voltage Ni Cads and did a little survey and found for 90% of the work thats all you really need and light weight with long run times and cheaper battery replacement costs it just fits. The Makita is replacing a 18v rigid that even when new never worked when it was cold. Makita tools are well made and carried by most of the big box stores. I'm happy with the price and most likley wont need to shop for a new one for several years.

16.5 Ft A-Type Multi-Purpose Extension Aluminum Telescopic Telescoping Ladder Review

I originally purchased this ladder to strip and repaint my front gutters. I love the versatility and convenience of the telescoping feature. However, it is very difficult and dangerous to restore back to its collapsed position without slamming your fingers between the rungs. I have to be extremely careful for this not to happen because it's very easy to do so when becoming very frustrated that it won't close as it should. Also, the foot gripping indentations on each rung are only on one side. This means that once you reach 50% of the height of the ladder, your feet are met with a smooth, metal surface. Additionally, it is wobbly when climbing it. It is also difficult to place from half position to full due to the flimsy metal bar that unlocks its three modes. I want to love the ladder but can't. I should have spent more money on a better quality one.

I always clean the gun throughly after use, but it always ends up with foam in the gun. I was frustated the first time, but then I discovered that the gun can be disassembled and easily cleaned out. Just unscrew the nozzle even though it has a thread sealer like lock-tite. After the nozzle is removed, the valve and nozzle can be easily cleaned with air or sometimes a soft plastic brush. The functioning of the gun deserves 5 stars. The fact that it has to be disassembled each time, though easy to do, removes a star.

DEWALT DW938K 18 Volt Reciprocating Saw Kit Review

Another reviewer mentioned that he only got 90 to 120 seconds of cutting time with his saw. I got much better performance. Right after pulling it out of the box, the included battery needed charging, so I borrowed a 5 year old, partially discharged 18 volt battery from our Dewalt cordless drill and proceeded to cut away 14: 2x6 roof rafters, 3: 2x8 rafters, the soffit and fascia, then a few 4" diameter saplings and various branches from nearby maple trees. The battery was still going strong. With a sharp blade, this tool will melt through 2" lumber. It's seems to cut more quiclky than my old Milwaukee Sawsall, but it is not as smooth and vibration free as the new Makita reciprocating saw (which is AC). This is a great tool that will get far more use than just for demolition around our house.
