Suddenly the quietest room in the house got quieter!Aero Pure SBF 110 L1 SN 110-CFM Super Quiet Bathroom Ventilation Fan with Light/nightlight Energy Star Qualified, Satin Nickel Review
This fan looks good, is very powerful and quiet, and does a more than adequate job after it is installed. However, installation is the problem. In my case, this was a replacement for an old fan rather than a new installation. The instruction manual is very sketchy and does not even mention the required rough opening in the ceiling. As a result, I measured the housing dimensions immediately above the mounting flanges and used them to size the rough opening.
The manual wants you to install it so that the mounting flanges are inside the room rather than above the drywall. As you can see in the photo, there is a metal appendage on the left side. This is a box where the electrical connections are made. What the manual doesn't say is that you must bring the electrical supply wire through the rough opening (whatever it is) into the room and have someone hold the assembly near the ceiling while you open the electrical box, complete the wiring, and close the box. Next you have to somehow insert the electrical box portion into the rough opening at an angle, then swing up the rest of the assembly through the opening and secure the flanges to the ceiling.
Given that the entire assembly is rather large, I wasn't sure that this would even be possible with the rough opening I estimated. Therefore, since I could gain access above through the attic, I mounted it with the flanges above the drywall to avoid the apparent acrobatics if it were to be mounted from below.
In short, unless you are experienced with jobs like this or are willing to have this fan installed professionally, I suggest looking for another fan with simpler, well-defined assembly procedures for new or retrofit installations . Often you can Google a model number and find the assembly manual online to give you some idea how it is to be installed.
