Vulcan Ladder USA ES-17T11G1 17-Feet Multi Task Ladder Review

The Vulcan branded ladder is available several other places, and as the HFT ladder for significantly less and no shipping if you pickup from thier local stores. Doesn't quite get 5 stars due to several things:

-1) the hinge lock is not as durable as the comparable Werner or Little Giant versions

-2) the hinge lock is a bit harder to activate than the Werner

-3) the construction is just a bit less tight than the Werner or Little Giant

BUT the benefits over these main competitors:

+1) lighter than the Werner by about 7lb. This 17ft ladder is only a few lbs heavier than the Werner 13ft

+2) the 17ft ladder costs about the same as the 13ft Werner competitor

+3) ALL these comparable ladders take the main accessories from each other like the Little Giant platform, Little Giant work tray, or the Werner or Little Giant leg leveler (prefer the latter of these)

If I were a contractor, I understand why the Werner or Little Giant would be preferable. But for home use or equivalent infrequent use this multi-ladder is a great deal! Look for local sales that don't state the manufacturer, but the Vulcan label will be on the actual ladder.

PS - I didn't add Cosco brand in here, as the one 13' Cosco I tried had a serious problem with the hinge latch and the aluminum finish had me leaving more grey fingerprints compared to all the other multi-ladders. More info at sed-tech.wikispaces.com/ladders
